A good nurse is someone who can communicate well with his/her patients. In every hospital nursing evaluation when it comes to communication is being performed.
This is a good way on how competencies of nurses are being measured. The communication skills of nurses are seen not only on how they communicate with their patients but in other aspect as well. You need to budget your time and be able to met all the needs of your patient within your shift. There are also instances that you should perform the same task at the same time. Multi tasking can be done in nursing as long as you are good in instructing your patient.

Some of the things that you will encounter in the hospital are not all taught in the hospital. You need to be observant and able to adjust with the kind of environment that you are in. After graduating in a nursing school you need to learn the skill of time management, multi tasking, able to know your priorities and you should be a keen observer as well.


Emergency Nursing is an area of nursing where in rapid actions and assessments are needed. In this part of nursing every second is valuable. The first phase of this field is really crucial and important. Emergency nurses needs to have a good skill and should have a good ability to make the right decision quickly. Avoid being judgmental as well. They will know if you understand them. Eye contact is also needed. Be reminded that giving advices to your client is also not advisable.

Nursing profession focuses on giving care for the patient. But being too attached is not advisable. This is the life of nurses, give care, patience, and love but don’t get yourself too involve.

Nursing care plan is very important for the profession of nurses. It is the list of plans of care that should be given to the client. This is one of the foundations of nursing care. Without the use of nursing care plan there will be part of the nursing care that will not get enough attention. There are cases that this nursing care plan document is lacking of much attention. In line with this, there are now lots of changes with the quality of nursing care plan. The discipline of the health care establishment must be well implemented with the nursing care plan.

In order for you to make a good nursing care plan, you need to start with a good and accurate assessment with your patient. Depression among patient is not easy to recognize because its symptoms are not visible. For a nurse it is your responsibility and your concern to know if your patient is depressed. Depression can affect the healing of your patient in many aspects. There are also cases where in the rehabilitation of your patient is longer than the expected date because of this matter. In severe cases there are also instances that sever depression can lead to physical symptoms. It is important if you will consider the emotional well being of your patient. Health is not just about physical well-being but also about the emotional, social and mental aspect as well.

To be able to play your role well you need to be inform about the different facts about depression. The occurrence of depression is higher in women than in men and this is because of the hormonal differences. The signs from a man to woman may vary about depression. A man is most likely not willing to admit his depression so he is more than angry than sad.

The common reason of depression includes separation with a love one, lost of job, serious medical problem and many others.

Here are some of the symptoms that may help you recognize that your patient is already depressed:

- Fatigue, lack of energy
- Loss of appetite
- Poor grooming
- Difficulty in sleeping
- A certain feeling of being alone

While doing your physical assessment or performing the vital signs check try to engaged conversation with your patient. This is to let you know about other factors that is not just about physical symptoms. You do not need any laboratory exams because this cannot diagnose depression. Be reminded that physical symptoms do not say it all when it comes to the health condition of your patient.

Uniform is essential in every profession as this may give a feeling of solidarity. This can also give the employee a sense of authority in the place that they are working.
