Nursing 101

Nursing have been known to be more advanced in the field of science. Now their job has widened the scope and their practices have been regarded to be more independent. Imagine a hospital without a nurse. It would be such a chaos if doctors would be all alone catering to all patients.

Have you noticed after the entire doctor’s examination, a nurse will be left to administer all the patient’s needs? Today, nurses can work independent after they have given the full direction of a physician. Nurses take full responsibility for the patient’s recovery.

Nurses have been known to communicate well with the sick. Their primary role is to make the patient feel their love and care.  They provide them not only the scientific explanation on their situation but also to provide them with moral and emotional support. Nurses work as the eyes and the ears of doctors. They do not just give medicines but they give hope. A good communicator is a good nurse. Patients need someone to tell them that everything will be okay. They need assurance of whatever illness they are going through. Those who are physically unstable are the ones who are emotionally thirsty of someone to talk to.

Nurses are classified depending on their area of responsibility. Some are as follows:

1.    Emergency room nurses
2.    Intensive care unit nurses
3.    Pediatric nurses
4.    Dialysis nurses
5.    Oncology Nurses
6.    Psychiatric Nurses

Nurses need a lot of credentials before they can land a job they are aiming for. Graduating from a program does not mean they already have all the necessary information to handle patients. Theoretical background is a must. However, practical knowledge on performing the job itself entails a lot of hard work. They need to undergo rigorous training experiences.

Some fields in nursing are specialized. They require certain certificates for you to get. Official nursing organizations award it to nurses who completed their program and passed the exam. Some hospitals require their nurses to pursue master’s degree. Although they hire entry level bachelor’s degree, nurses may continue to still attend higher education while keeping their job.

They say nursing is the most rewarding job. Nurses have been given the chance to witness miracles and births. These are people whom we entrust our lives when we can no longer function well. They care for our elders when everybody is too busy with their jobs. Nurses have always been an extended family.
